Critical infrastructures, such as electric power grids and natural gas pipelines, are increasingly dependent on the information and communication technologies (ICT) for the operation and control of the physical facilities. As the connectivity grows, so does the potential for cyber intrusions. Since the society and economy rely heavily on the support and services provided by the infrastructures, the potential damage of a cyber attack can be enormous. For this reason, the ICT for critical infrastructures is required to meet a higher level of requirements on the integrated system security and reliability.

The proposed research is intended to develop the mathematical and computational foundations for mitigation of the ICT threats for critical infrastructures. Although cyber security issues and technologies are well known, research on the interdependency between cyber- and physical systems for critical infrastructures is just emerging. The proposed research will develop novel methods for detecting anomalies in the cyber-physical systems and their applications to detection of cyber intrusions.

The position is funded by Science Foundation Ireland for 4 years. The position is full-time.
