Teaching Interests:
Adaptive Personalization (Comp 40320)
Adaptive Personalization is the process of tailoring web systems in terms of appearance and behaviour to each individual or user group. In this course we examine three fundamentals of adaptive personalization, modelling in terms of users and content, adaptation technologies and personalization challenges.
Introduction to Multimedia (COMP 3618 / COMP 2008 / COMP D7)My module in this unit comprises of content around the theme of Web 2.0. Covering technical topics such as AJAX, RSS and API's and theory based topics on Tagging, Social Networking and other social supported systems

Since May of 2006 researchers within the Adaptive Information Cluster, Professor Barry Smyth, Maurice Coyle and I have worked closely with Professor Peter Brusilovsky and Rosta Farzan in the University of Pittsburgh in the integration of multiple social support mechanisms for Information Retrieval. The collaboration has allowed for visiting researcher positions in both Universities and the publication of several papers in international conferences and workshops.
A new collaboration between the Adaptive Information Cluster and the Collaborative User Experience group in the IBM TJ Watson centre in Boston has just begun. I have recently taken up a Visiting Scholar's position in the IBM offices in order to facilitate a collaborative work plan for the two groups which aims to exploit the expertise of researchers from both group to facilitate research in the area of social software.
