Research
Research Interests:
Current Research
Machine learning: Development of novel cluster analysis and semi-supervised learning algorithms, with a particular focus on their application in text mining tasks, including thematic document clustering and sentiment analysis.
Social network analysis: Application of large-scale matrix analysis and community finding algorithms to multi-relational graphs representing online communities and bibliographic networks.
Bioinformatics: Exploration of gene expression datasets, protein-protein interaction networks, and genetic interaction maps. Integration of diverse biological datasets, such as proteomics data and biomedical document collections.
This work is undertaken as part of the SFI-funded DaM-BUST Project at UCD.
PhD Thesis:
A State-of-the-Art Toolkit for Document Clustering
This work provides a new framework supporting the development of applications for exploratory text mining tasks. As well as allowing researchers to apply popular learning algorithms to large document collections, the framework introduces a variety of novel data analysis procedures based on kernel learning, cluster ensembles, and matrix decomposition methods.
