Aaron is the UCD director of ODCSSS, the Online Dublin Computer Science Summer School. ODCSSS is a summer research internship program for undergraduate students funded in part by the Science Foundation Ireland under their UREKA program. ODCSSS is a four-year collaborative internship program between the School of Computer Science and Informatics at the University College Dublin and the School of Computing at the Dublin City University.
The 2007 thematic focus of "Technologies for Aiding Human Memory" grew out of our experiences with the program in 2006. The 2006 students suggested the need for undergraduates to see a social impact from their work, not just academic results. In 2006 there were 17 students in the program, which has grown to 24 students in 2007. In 2007 we had over 100 applications from around the world. In 2007 we have students coming from Universities in Austria, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Ireland, Slovenia, Spain, Thailand and the USA. The 2008 program has a focus on "Technologies for Social Connectedness" and starts on June 3rd 2008. Successful candidates are offered a tax-free scholarship of €300 per week (for 12 weeks) along with travel support.

Research
Research Interests:
- His research interests include pervasive computing, software engineering, information visualisation, human computer interaction, location and context awareness, peer to peer computing and ad-hoc networking. His research leadership experiences include the supervision of research assistants, postdoctoral fellows and postgraduate students, the management of large projects (including financial management, team leadership, IP management and commercialisation) along with the establishment of new inter-disciplinary and inter-agency research activities.

Teaching
Teaching Interests:
- The central tenet of my teaching philosophy and approach is the SECI model of learning, which I was introduced to when I first taught in Japan in 1995. This model helps me focus on student learning and my teaching as part of a continual process to be refined and reflected upon, from class to class and from year to year. I can clearly trace back not only my teaching style but also my supervision style, to a blend of best practices that personally influenced me, or which I learnt about through training and research in educational methods. In a reflection on my own and the teaching of others the important learning issues which consistently come to the fore include: subjects where objectives were clear, a lecturer who responds to student needs, useful examples from practice and real life, sound assessments, lecturer preparedness and enthusiasm and courses which are evolving and not stale.
Modules Co-ordinated:
- COMP40340 Computer Science: Multimedia, Graphics and Visualization
- COMP40610 Computer Science: Information Visualisation

My teaching interest at postgraduate level currently revolves around visualisation. For example my infovis course covers the fundamental theory of information visualisation including visualisation models, vision, curve functions, graph and network algorithms along with practical techniques including, the processing language, connections and correlations, scatterplot maps, trees and hierarchies, acquiring and parsing data.
