I am a Professor in the School of Computer Science and Informatics at University College Dublin, Ireland. I got my Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences from the University of California, Berkeley in 1992. A few more details are in my brief bio.

Editorial Boards & Programme Committees:

§  I am an Associate Technical Editor for IEEE Communications Magazine, which is one of the most cited journals in Telecommunications and Electrical/Electronic Engineering and provides peer-reviewed information on all aspects of communications.

§  I am an Associate Editor for the IEEE Transactions on Broadcasting, which is one of the most cited journals in Telecommunications and features peer-reviewed papers on areas ranging from satellite and Internet broadcasting to traditional RF topics.

§  I am an Editor for the IEEE Communications Surveys & Tutorials, an online journal published by the IEEE Communications Society for tutorials and surveys covering all aspects of the communications field.

§  I am the Co-Editor (with Dr. Nicola Cranley) of a book, Wireless Multimedia: Quality of Service and Solutions, published by Idea Group Inc. in July 2008. The Call for Chapter Proposals was widely distributed e.g. Tccc, manet, CFP list.

In addition, I am (or I have recently been) a reviewer for these journals.

 

Current Conference responsibilities:

·              Member of the Technical Programme Committee for IEEE Globecom, Selected Areas in Communications Symposium and Wireless Networking Symposium.

·              Member of the Technical Programme Committee for IEEE ICC, the International Conference on Communications.

·              Member of the Technical Programme Committee for the International Conference on Wired/Wireless Internet Communications (WWIC).

·              Member of the Technical Programme Committee for the IEEE Consumer Communications and Networking Conference (CCNC).

Research:

I help to run the Performance Engineering Laboratory research group.

·        To date, I have supervised/co-supervised 11 Ph.D. and 6 Research Masters students to graduation.

·        At present, I am supervising/co-supervising 7 Ph.D. and 1 Research Masters students.

I am a director of crovan, a UCD/DCU campus company.

I am an IBM Center for Advanced Studies (Dublin) Faculty Fellow.
