COMP 3003 Example Projects 2004
Here are some images from course projects, shown in alphabetic order.
At least two other examples could not be posted due to copyright issues.
Unless otherwise noted, the copyright for each project belongs to the student,
who has granted permission to publish the movie clip as part of this web page,
and asserted their moral right to be identified as the creator of the project.
The movie clips are in Apple's QuickTime format, and are fairly large, so I have shown
thumbnails only: click on an image to see the corresponding movie.
Note that one of the requirements of the project was that it include a lamppost similar to
the ones at UCD. So don't be surprised if you see one in each project.
Morgan Conlan: Drunkard's Walk
Animation of a drunkard's walk.
Although there are some rendering problems, the animation of an unsteady walk is
quite good. Note that the flashes and the disorienting camera spin are deliberate.
After all, he IS drunk.
Brian Duffy: Karate
Animation of karate practice.
Note the texture used for the weapon rack in the foreground
and the billboarded trees in the background.
Alan Hannaway: Solar System
Animation of a solar system.
Good automated camera control and a visually pleasing result.
Francis Lee: Marble World
An animated scene of the solar system inside a marble.
Minor rendering problems, but a really nice visual effect
of a solar system inside a marble.
Conor McGuire: Wolf in the Forest
Animation of a man being surprised by a wolf while smoking a cigarette.
Good use of texture here, especially the red eyes in the background and the extension
of the road to the right.
Rory McCann: Glowing Ball
From a physically-based simulation of a ball rolling on a sloped surface, controlled by
the arrow keys on the keyboard. Nice use of physical modelling and a glowing object.

Keith Pilson: Robots on Parade
Robots on parade downtown. Good hand-drawn texture for the office buildings and
clever use of a very simple animation cycle for the robots. I especially like the robot on
the back of the lorry.
Brian Wilson: Transformer
A car transforming into a person.
A lot of effort went into defining the character and animating it to
get this effect.
