CSI Celebrates Kazakh Scholars

Dr. Joe Carthy with our Kazakh Scholars

Our Head of School, Dr. Joe Carthy, recently met with a group of scholarship students from Kazakhstan. The students, Saniya Issina, Anara Sandygulova, Murat Abdiyev and Shyrailym Shaldambayeva are all part of the Bolashak scholarship programme. Bolashak means "the future" in Kazakhstan and Bolashak students study Bachelor and Masters degrees in subjects which the Kazakh government has identified as priority areas to enable the country to prosper, such as Business, Law, Science and Engineering. Upon graduation, students return to their home country to work in government service for a period of five years.

On meeting with our current students, Dr. Carthy says "The School of Computer Science and Informatics is really impressed by our Kazakh students. They are among the top students in the university. They are excellent in their academic studies but they also bring a wider cultural dimension to their classes that enriches the educational experience of their peers. They are terrific ambassadors for their country and perhaps the simplest way to say this is that we would warmly welcome many more such students from Kazakhstan.

The School of Computer Science and Informatics is happy to assist any Kazakh student who is considering studying in UCD.
