Categories:

On the 17th of October 2009, UCD CSI relaunched our Introduction to Computer Science and Programming (ICSP) module for second level students. 20 students from around the country have commenced on the programme with a full-day workshop in UCD School of Computer Science and Informatics. Through the module, students will be introduced to the core concepts of computer science and will recieve instruction in areas such as hardware, robotics, programmign and basic computer theory. Under the guidance of Dr. Michael O'Neill, Karl Abbey and Erik Hemberg, the programme runs fro 12 weeks between October and December 2009.

Follwing on from a highly successful beginning in 2008, the module continues to go from strength to strength and already we are seeing the benefits with two students from last year's module , Bartolemiej Siniarski and James Taylor, currently studying computer science at UCD. Students who successfully complete the module and accept a place on a UCD computer science programme are entitled to claim 5 elective credits as a reward for their efforts.

More information on the module can be obtained from www.csi.ucd.ie/icsp or by contacting Karl.abbey@ucd.ie.
